Advanced Spanish
Advanced Spanish is a two-part course designed to fill the needs of the student who wants a fourth or fifth year of language study. This course offers a highly flexible approach to language skills through activities that focus on communication, practiced through question and answer techniques. Though there is no set text for this course, materials will be provided on an as needed basis. Attention will be paid to literature, history and art from Spain and Hispanic America. Selections from several Spanish short stories and plays are read as well as a variety of literature from Hispanic America. Advanced Spanish grammar topics will also be integrated into the curriculum.
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
•Deepen their knowledge of Hispanic America through its culture, literature, history, music, etc.
•Read authentic Spanish texts (novels, short stories, newpapers, etc)
•Express themselves in written and spoken Spanish on a variety of topics and in different contexts.

Spanish I
The primary objective for this course is to give students a foundation in the four basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing Spanish. The text used is Spanish for Mastery I. In addition, the course emphasizes learning about the culture of the people of the Hispanic world - including Spain, Latin America and those in the United States. This is a rigorous daily homework course with weekly quizzes.
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
Greet and respond to greetings,
Read basic signs, menus and newspaper items.
Ask and answer many basic questions.

Spanish II
This course reviews and extends the skills begun in Spanish I. The text used is Spanish for Mastery II and is supplemented where needed with the workbook to accompany the text as well as various handouts. The student will be presented with more advanced study of the grammatical structure of the language and verb tenses. To achieve a beginning fluency, a method of question and answer is utilized. The student will also study the customs and mores of the Hispanic world. This is a rigorous daily homework course with weekly quizzes.
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
