The key to success in any class is to come to class prepared and be ready to learn. This means getting a good night's sleep the night before and coming to class with your math textbook, a separate notebook for taking daily math notes, homework, and a pencil. I also believe communication between home and school is essential. I can be reached by phone at 243-2780, ext. 2120 or by e-mail at amwescott@leepublicschools.net. Please feel free to contact me with your concerns.
Class Requirements
- All work must be done in pencil. A separate notebook is required for taking daily notes. These notebooks are collected on test day and count as a quiz grade. Notes and homework done in pen will not be accepted. Quizzes and tests not done in pencil will lose 10 points.
- Homework must be done by the beginning of class. Homework handed in late will lose 50% of the grade value. Students who do not complete or do their homework should come during lunch or remain after school to make up the work. Failure to do so will result in a zero for the assignment and no make up privileges will be given. Repeated late and/or missing assignments will result in a phone call home or a deficiency being sent.
- After you have been absent, your missed work must be made up. The time you have to make up the work is determined by the equation: t = n + 1, where n is the number of consecutive school days you have been out. If you have been out one day, then you have two days to make up the work. If you have been out for three days, then you have four days to make up the assignments. This includes homework, class work, quizzes, and tests. Students, who choose to skip my class, have no make up privileges.
- Most of your work will be done without a calculator, but there will be times when you will be able to use one. You will also be able to use one on part of the seventh grade MCAS. It would be wise to invest in one now, so you get used to it. I recommend the Texas Instruments’ TI-30XIIS because that is the type the school has invested in for grades 7 through 11. If you choose another type, it should be one that does fractions and has trigonometric functions on it. Please make sure your name is etched in it. I usually have an engraver here for the first few weeks of school. I will be happy to engrave your name on your calculator.
- It is important that we respect the facilities and materials that the taxpayers have provided. Therefore, your math book must be covered properly at all times. Lack of a proper cover requires you to return to me before the end of the day to put a new one on your book. Failure to do so will result in a disciplinary notice. Misuse of any school property will also result in disciplinary action.
- Please ask questions in class if you do not understand something. Your questions may help others in the class.
- Come for extra help as soon as you find you are having trouble. I am here Tuesdays and Thursdays until 3:15 and every morning from 7:30 to 7:55.
- Remember my door is always open. If you have any questions or special circumstances, please talk to me about them. We usually can work things out.
